CSGSA Biking Event at Stanley Park

As we planed earlier this semester, we are going to have a biking event at Stanley Park this weekend. The plan is to rent bikes from the stores next to the Park and go for a ride around Stanley Park. Typically the ride is short but exciting. It may take up to two hours depending on how often we stop.
Where to meet?
We are going to meet at the intersection of Denman St and Alberni St. If it's your first time to go to the area use Google map to get direction, here. If it's hard for you to get there on your own, send me an email and I will arrange someone to help you get there.
We are going to meet 10:00am on Sunday, Oct 13 (this weekend). Please be sharp. We will not wait for late people. Current weather prediction is sunny for the whole day, but in the case prediction changes, we may change the schedule of event. The final call will be made on Friday.
What to bring?
CSGSA will cover the bike rental which also includes helmet. But your are recommended to bring the following items for yourself:
  • water.
  • some snacks like chocolate bar, energy bar, or small sandwiches.
  • camera.
  • some sense of adventure :D
Please don't bring big backpacks or large purses. You really don't want to carry all those things on the bike. A small backpack will be ideal.
The capacity of event is limited. So, please let me know if you'd like to attend the event using the form emailed to you, by the end of Thursday. Note that by RSVP this event through the link you agree that "you", not the event organizer, CSGSA, or anyone else, are entirely responsible for your own safety in this event.

CS GSA Game Night

Hey everyone,

Your "Computer Science Graduate Students Association" will be holding it's first event for the fall semester this Thursday September 19th.

For this first hang out we decided to organize a game night were we could all get together and get to know each other. What would be better than a FIFA party among lab mates, or a poker game or any other game you can think of ... yes we are full of resources! (Chess, Cards, Uno, Risk, ping pong ...)

So book your Thursday night after class/work and be there starting 5pm on TASC1 9204 to meet all the members of your CS GSA community

So to make it short:

WHERE: TASC1 9204 and Game Room
    WHEN: Thursday September 19th, 5pm to 8pm
WHAT: REFRESHMENTs ... and other stuff!

Hope to see you there!

CS GSA July News

Hi everyone,
1. As you all know CS GSA on June 19, 20 and July 3 held a colloquium, where our fellow graduate students gave talks about their research.
Everything went very smooth, and we had more than 100 people in attendance (3 days combined). We ate pile of pizza, drank lots of pop and had a very smart discussion about science and stuff.
Each talk was recorded and posted on YouTube. I've compiled a playlist of videos and you can check it out by the following link
Note that there is no audio on the first day speakers' videos due to technical glitch.
I hope that both speakers and attendees liked this type of colloquium and get to know about each other's research more.
2. Our CS GSA need new executive members to keep things going in the new semester and beyound.
Particularly we need:
1. CS GSA president. I will be stepping down on July 26th. I'll be on internship and won't be around.
2. Treasuser. Our current treasurer Iman Sarrafi graduated recently.
3. Secretary. Jianqiao Li graduated.
4. GSS Representative. Frederick will be away as well.
Basically, the only member who stays is Mengliu Zhao. She is our vice president.
So if you want to become an executive member - drop me a message and we'll figure out how to proceed from now.
I also should remind that without executive members our CS GSA won't be able to function normally, and we would have to pull the plug on such things as tea socials and equipment purchases.
P.S. and yes we are holding a BBQ event sometime soon, so I hope that everyone could join.
